BCTC MATH PROGRAM
BCTC students who attend programs at East Campus (Oley) will schedule their math
requirements at the home school. Students attend morning or afternoon sessions.
BCTC students who attend programs at West Campus (Leesport) will schedule their math
requirements at West Campus. West Campus students only attend BCTC during the afternoon
session.
The following is a description of the mathematics courses offered at the Berks Career and
Technology Center:
• Math Concepts 1
Prerequisite: None
Students will study topics in basic arithmetic skills, measurement, graphing, consumer math, basic
geometry, and basic algebra.
• Algebra 1
Prerequisite: Math Concepts 1
The topics covered in this course are calculator skills, using mathematical tools, problem solving, signed
numbers, polynomials, exponents, factoring, and linear inequalities.
• Geometry
Prerequisite: Algebra 1
This course includes basic geometric concepts, segments, angles, parallel and perpendicular lines, triangle
relationships, quadrilaterals, similarity, polygons, area, surface area, volume, circles, and basic probability
and statistics.
• Algebra 2
Prerequisite: Geometry
This course will continue to build on the skills covered in Algebra 1. Additional topics will include
systems of equations, graphing, quadratic equations, factoring, and applications/problem solving from all
algebraic/geometric topics.
• Math of Finance
Prerequisite: Algebra 2
This course is for seniors only. It is designed to give students instruction in math skills used in the field of
finance.
