Oley Valley Elementary School
Welcome to Oley Valley Elementary School . The support staff and teachers have work diligently to prepare for the new school year. We have added a full day Kindergarten class and now have three full day and two A.M. and P.M. classes. There are seven First Grades and six Second, Third, and Fourth Grades. There are seven Fifth Grades. We serve approximately 850 students. Our reading program for all grades K-5 is the Harcourt-Brace Program. We supplement with leveled books and Accelerated Reader. Our Math Program is the Scott Foresman/Addison Wesley Series for all grades K-5.
As we strive to be the best for your children, we will be continuing with our assessment programs. Our teams will analyze the data and work with the teachers to better the instructional strategies used to meet the needs of the students.
You will notice that our report card format looks different this year. It will be computerized and will appear vertically rather than horizontally. The report and grading is not changed.
Students will once again receive Homework Folders and/or Agenda Books. This should help them as they look to become organized. On the First Day of School we discussed LISA – Listen, Include, Share, and Appreciate. We also talked about NED – Never give up. Encourage others. Do your best. In order for our learning community to be the best, our goal is to respect each other and treat everyone with kindness. The Wise Choice for the month of September is to do your personal best. We will address a new Wise Choice each month of the school year.
We look for your help as we have all kinds of activities through the year. We want you to visit and help in your child’s classroom when appropriate. We need to work together for the optimal success of your child. Our school district goal is to increase student achievement.
The Principal’s Reading Challenge will be “Reach for Reading ”. Everyone should be able to read 25 books during the school year. Reading helps us read better. The more we read, the better we read. Spend some time reading with your child each day.
We look forward to this partnership. If you have any questions about our school call the school office at 610-987-4100 ext. 2000.
