Congratulations to Rafe Forsyth for winning the OVMS annual Boyertown Times 6th Grade Spelling Bee held on April 24. This year’s runner up was Sara Neidert. Third place went to Reese Kauffman. Congratulations to all our spellers and especially to our winners! Thanks also to the Boyertown Times and to Mr. Weise for orchestrating this event.

Important Immunization Information

Attention Parents:

The Pennsylvania Department of Health is reminding parents and care givers of the upcoming deadline to ensure school-aged children have had all required immunizations.
To help parents and care givers meet the deadline, the department will be providing free immunization clinics during the week of April 9th. Students will need to be registered by April 1st. To register for an appointment visit www.padohclinicappt.com. Individuals can also call 8777-PA HEALTH (877-724-3258) for additional information. The most recent copy of the student’s vaccination history must be provided at the time of the appointment. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

New School Regulations by the Pennsylvania Department of Health now require ALL students in grades K-12 to have:

2 doses varicella (chicken pox) vaccine or history of disease
4 doses of tetanus* (1 dose on or after the 4^th birthday)
4 doses of diphtheria* (1 dose on or after the 4^th birthday)
3 doses of polio
2 doses of measles**
2 doses of mumps**
1 dose of rubella (German measles)**
3 doses of hepatitis B

**Usually given as DTP or DTaP or DT or Td

**Usually given as MMR

Students in 7^th grade need:

1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap)

(if 5 years has elapsed since last tetanus immunization)

1 dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV

All doses must be administered by May 4, 2012. If your child does not have all required vaccines by this date, he/she will no longer be permitted to attend school until they have been vaccinated.

Odyssey of the Mind

Congratulations to our Oley Valley Elementary Odyssey of the Mind – Weird Science Team. They took 3rd place at the Regional Competition held on Saturday, March 3 at Millersville University

Hoops for Hearts American Heart Association Fundraiser!

Currently, the Middle School’s Excellence Committee is running the American Heart Association Hoops for Hearts fundraiser. Students have received an information packet (with permission form). This fund drive runs until Wednesday, March 7th. Students and families can raise money with checks and cash or via an online donation feature (www.heart.org/hoops). All students who raise at least five dollars will receive a prize, and will take part in fun basketball-related activities during PSSA testing week (March 14-16). Let’s raise some money for a great cause!
