Counselors

Welcome

The OVMS Guidance Department would like to welcome Rachael Hasselhan, as our new Guidance Intern.  Miss Hasselhan will be completing her required counseling practicum hours as part of her Master’s Degree program at Kutztown University.  Miss Hasselhan will be at the Middle School on Monday and Thursday until May 2012.  Please help us in welcoming her to our district.

Student Support Groups

We had an overwhelming response from students and parents requesting participation in a variety of support groups.  All students that signed up to participate in a support group will be offered at least one group session throughout the school year.  All group sessions will run on an eight week cycle and will be held on Tuesday.  Please be aware that different group topics run all school year and it is never too late to participate in a support group.  If you are interested in having your child attend a support group, please contact your child’s school counselor.  A list of group summaries and permission form can be accessed from the on-line guidance resource page.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS IN 8TH GRADE

Students in 8th grade will begin the selection process for 9th grade classes in February/March.  More information will be coming home about the course selection process, as well as the transition to the High School.  Students will visit the High School in May for a tour and an informational session with the High School Faculty and Staff.

The second quarter of the school year will be ending January 18.  Warnings for potential  school year failures will be sent home the first week of February.  Please know that it is never too late for a student to improve to passing grades.  Academic assistance is always available during Lynx Period.  If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s academic performance, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher(s) at any time.
